Visionary Spotlight: Carolyn Kong Shaping the Future
When Carolyn Kong joined IBSA USA as its Chief Business and Medical Affairs Officer, the company’s US subsidiary had only been in place for about a year. It was a time of rapid and exciting growth, and Carolyn found that she loved the company’s entrepreneurial, hands on, and dynamic environment – as well as its family-like culture.
This positive outlook continues today, with Carolyn proclaiming, “IBSA is an extraordinary company. We have a strong collaborative organization, great infrastructure and amazing people with the right dedication and focus.” On a personal level, Carolyn loves that every day offers her different opportunities and experiences, ranging from business development, regulatory and compliance, to medical affairs and more.
Over the next two to five years, Carolyn is working with global R&D and business development to bring in new products, advance the pipeline, and make all the company’s offerings the best that they can be for the US market.
In addition to this work, Carolyn also enjoys mentoring the next generation of leaders at the company. In the years ahead, IBSA is poised to grow and change, thanks to investments in new therapeutic areas and innovative treatments. The future is bright with new product launches on the way and going forward, Carolyn is excited to share her experiences with up-and-coming members of the IBSA USA community, so that they, too, can grow and excel with the company.
Not surprisingly, Carolyn finds the core pillar of Person to be most resonant with her leadership experience, as she believes that all the other pillars (Quality, Innovation and Responsibility) depend on this one. Carolyn views the Person pillar through the lens of collaboration, where teams work together to innovate, ensure quality and take responsibility for both – all with the “common goal of raising awareness about how our products can improve patients’ lives, getting our products to these patients and making them accessible and widely available.”
This passion for the products – and for the patients they serve – isn’t surprising. Carolyn is a pharmacist by training, having received both a BS and a Doctorate in Pharmacy, and she has been committed to improving the health and well-being of patients since her career began. As such, she is particularly well positioned to help shape the company’s future and its potential to positively impact the lives of patients.
